A Techrepublic post asked users to provide some of their favorite apps a while back. I was already using some of them and also found a few more useful apps.
The following lists some apps that I, as an administrator, absolutely feel that I cannot do with out. Subsequently, they help me to perform my job a lot easier.
Most of the apps are free (have limited free versions), or are inexpensive. This is restricted solely to computer apps even though some of them do have smartphone apps as well.
They are listed in no particular order:

They are listed in no particular order:
- Q-dir—multiple Windows Explorer app
- Pathtoclipboard from 12noon—copies the paths of a file or folder
- Open with Arguments or File Menu Tools—provides the abilities to open and provide the commands for an exe directly from a GUI. File Menu Tools has a host of other subtools as well.
- USSF (Universal Silent Switch Finder)—extracts the silent command switches. The app is hard to find, unfortunately!
- PDQ Deploy and PDQ Inventory—Deploy allows you to deploy various file formats for updates, installs and other stuff. Inventory--reports applications and other data for clients.
- MakeMSI—msi editor and installer
- WICU-Windows Installer Cleanup utility—removes programs that are hard to remove or have broken uninstallers--you probably will not find this version unless you really look. Microsoft has replaced it with a FixIt type app.
- IOBit Uninstaller—removes hard to remove applications along with the option to clean old registry junk
- Registry Jumper—seems to only work up until XP or Registry Jump-jumps directly to registry selected from input text
- Specops GPUpdate—allows GP updating remotely for several clients simultaneously plus other admin features.
- WUInstall—very intuitive app to pull Windows updates from command line
- RoboForm—password and web site favorites/bookmarks keeper
- Dropbox or SkyDrive—cloud storage
- Daemon Tools, CDBurnerXP—image viewer and optical disc burner
- 7zip, WinRAR, or TUGzip—compression and extraction tools
- Orca (no longer supported), Superorca (Orca’s third party replacement), or InstEd—MSI authoring tools
- Hiren’s Boot CD—preferably a version with Active@ Password Changer but the other password tools work as well
- PSPad—Notepad replacement
- Fast Resolver or Advanced IP Scanner--subnet IP address PING tools
- MyUninstaller and NirSoft Tool Suite--A better Add/Remove app and a whole bunch of freeware utilities
